Holograms

On February 9, 2015 Boston announced that the next Immersive Education of 2015 will take place in Paris, France. In this years summit it will include six different technologies such as Virtual reality, Holograms, Robotics, 3D Printing, Neurogames, and Cybernetics. Within those six technologies there are different companies that are currently working with some of those technologies. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, Apple Watch etc. There will be an announcement in March in regards to the date and venue of the summit. For more information feel free to visit http://summit.ImmersiveEducation.org

Holograms are photographic techniques that use laser beams to give the look or a three dimensional figure. Holograms are used in movies and also on drivers licenses or ID cards. That type of Hologram is called the Rainbow hologram and is used for security purposed only. Holograms date back to 1947, it came from a Greek word. Holos meaning whole and gramma meaning message.

Iron man is a well know movie that actually consists of a lot of holograms through out the whole movie. In this image he is working on the Iron suit with out physically having to work on the suit. He is using its virtual version. Star Wars is also another well known movie that also uses holograms through out the film.

In this video it shows a hologram of Michael Jackson. This hologram pin points every movements and facial expression that Michael is known for. It looks very real but if you look closely you are able to see the digital lighting being used that is making Michael who he is. The hologram of Michael also doesn't just stay in one place it is able to move and dance as if it were really him on stage.

The image above gives a basic set up to how holograms work. As mentioned before the basis is the laser and an object is needed to then reflect through the mirrors and appear as a hologram. When holograms were first starting it was inspired when improving the resolution of a microscope. But because technology back in 1947 was not as great as it is now scientist Dennis Gabor was not able to further with this creation.

A hologram of Tupac was also created for a performance. There were many talks about this performance and how live like it was to see him on stage "performing". Even though it may be hard to tell where the laser beams are I can tell where the lighting is to make this holograms seem real. I find it amazing how movement and voice can be incorporated into this hologram.

This can also be seen and also have more information at the IMMERSION 2015 summit. In all holograms are used to make objects or images come to life. It is a great technology and can be used in different ways as i have presented them. I am interested to see how much farther holograms will be used in today's world.
